The pain that you may be experiencing I know a lot about it, as I have possibly felt it too. I was involved in a really nasty car accident as well as a couple of painful falls, which left me with chronic neck, shoulder and right leg pain. I spent quite a bit of time in and out of hospital trying to get the pain and muscle spasms under control. Although I had some relief from the pain by taking prescribed medication I did not want to rely on them so decided to try a variety of complementary therapies, some were more beneficial than others.
A few years ago I was also diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia so I can really empathise with my clients when they come to me with any issues.
After over 30 years of nursing I decided to swap my nurses uniform for a tracksuit. I have had an interest in complementary therapies for some years after doing some short courses in massage and seeing the benefits on patients in Intensive Care. I have also been on the receiving end of quite a few different complementary therapies, some I found more effective than others.
I applied to train as a Massage Therapist at Oakdale Adult Learning Centre, Poole and after lots of training, studying and exams finally qualifying in 2013.
I have completed a Hot Stone Massage course and sometimes incorporate Hot Stone Therapy (HST) into the massage to aid relaxation and reduce tension as well as offering it as a stand alone treatment.
Following my training I have completed various continued professional development courses including Hands Free Massage as well as Indian Head Massage which, is a great introduction to those people who have never experienced massage before, as this treatment is carried out whilst the client is fully clothed.
In June 2015 I qualified in Sports Massage and obtained my ITEC Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy after lots of studying, sleepless nights, case studies, event hours and exams!! In conjunction with this I have also attended a taping and strapping course and a first aid course as well as becoming a member of the Sports Massage Association (SMA).
I volunteer most Sunday's with The Dorset Destroyers Wheelchair Rugby as a member of their support staff. The Dorset Destroyers train at Rossmore Leisure Centre, Herbert Avenue, Poole and have some classified players as well as hoping to get more players into the new league once it starts. The Dorset Destroyer's are incredible and have gone from strength to strength in a very short space of time, I am honoured to be part of it.
I am the sports therapist for Lytchett Minister RFC and love working with these guys (even in the cold rainy British weather) both pre, post event and offering first aid support pitch side.
I absolutely love what I do and am very passionate about it. I am also really grateful to be working with some amazing wonderful people.
